2015 Acura TLX 2.4 Long-Term Update 3

The TPMS read 7 PSI for the rear passenger-side tire. Ugh. I don’t have AAA, and I’m not all that skilled in pit stops. Despite TPMS being notorious for false readings, sure enough the tire was as flat as Kansas. No worries. The Acura comes equipped with a tire sealant and inflator kit. The square device looked like something out of a Tom Clancy novel. It had an expiration date, an instruction guide with a seal I needed to break to read, and multiple hoses.

My heart sank when I saw the flat tire, but it was pure
joy when I unleashed the tire sealant and inflator kit and got back on the road.

The tire sealant and inflator kit in action. Believe me, it was more exciting to see it live. Afterward I placed the stickers provided on the tire and speedometer to warn that this tire was no longer high-performance.

I screwed the sealant/air hose into the tire’s valve stem, stretched the ample power cord to the TLX’s power volt outlet, set the pump to fill and seal, and turned it on. It made a lovely racket while it first filled the inside with a white sealant to close the yet unknown source of the leak, and when the sealant was used up, it automatically switched to become an air pump to inflate the tire. I monitored the TPMS on the dash and switched off the pump when it reached the proper PSI. It all took less than 15 minutes. The drive back to work where we will take care of the tire properly was tense, but the tire lost no air pressure on the 15-mile journey.
